As the temperature starts to drop and the weather changes, so does your skin
The colder temperatures can result in decreased circulation to the skin and widened capillaries, which can cause dull, dry, itchy or irritated skin. In fact, during winter, your typical skin type may shift. Oily skin may become combination, combination skin may become dry and dry skin may become red with excessive dry patches. Regardless of skin type, the biggest winter skin challenge, by far, is keeping skin moisturized.
In order to maintain healthy skin through the tough winter months, it is a good idea to update your skin care routine to match the changing weather. Here are a few simple steps to help winter- proof your skin.
Exfoliate
It may sound counter-intuitive, but gently exfoliating can actually help lotions and creams work better. The skin sheds dead skin cells continuously and, unless removed, those dead skin cells can keep moisturizers from fully sinking into the skin. The Sonya ® Aloe Deep-Cleansing Exfoliator is a gentle exfoliator that assists the natural processes of the skin with the perfect combination of soothing Aloe, natural softening jojoba beads and smoothing glycerin. It is gentle enough to use twice a week and contains the moisturizing benefits of Aloe.
Upgrade Your Moisturizer
Many of us need a creamier face and body moisturizer during the winter. Even if you only use lightweight lotions most of the time, you may find that during the winter months, you need something a bit richer. For your face, combine the Sonya ® Aloe Balancing Cream with Sonya ® Aloe Nourishing Serum for optimum day and night moisturizing.
Moisturize Immediately After the Shower
Studies have shown that applying body lotion in the three – minute window right after you shower is best. By moisturizing quickly, you can take advantage of the moisture on the skin and lock it in with lotion. Aloe Lotion and Aloe Moisturizing Lotion both have a high content of pure, stabilized, patented Aloe to help moisturize and soothe the skin. Each formula also provides collagen and elastin to assist in keeping the skin smooth and supple. Both products are a good choice for applying to dry, chafed, wind-blown or weathered skin. For a lighter texture try the Aloe Lotion to deliver moisture to the skin’s surface. If you prefer a thicker texture, try the Aloe Moisturizing Lotion. Both are excellent choices to help replenish lost moisture and restore skin’s soft, silky feel.
Don’t Neglect Your Lips
Dry, cracked lips are not uncommon in the winter. And many people make it worse by licking their lips, in an attempt to restore moisture, only to have the cold air suck away the moisture, leaving lips irritated. To combat this effect, try Forever Aloe Lips ®. Forever Aloe Lips ® soothes and moisturizes chapped and dry lips. The unique blend of Aloe, jojoba and beeswax combine to deliver moisture and preserve moisture loss creating the finest lip product on the market.
Apply a Touch of Color
Cold weather undoubtedly means more time indoors for most people. For many of us, this means we may lose a bit of our “natural glow” from time spent outdoors. But there’s no reason you can’t try a tinted moisturizer that comes with a little color. The aloe BB crème was created to hydrate, prime, conceal and offer sun protection, all while creating a soft, luminous glow, leaving the skin looking natural and flawless. This unique formula contains clinically tested botanical extracts to help firm and smooth your skin’s appearance. Incorporating these simple tips and changes can help you gear up for the winter elements and keep your skin glowing – even in the shortest and darkest of days!
